Most people think farmland earns from one thing — the main crop. In Coorg, that is not how it works. A single managed acre can carry coffee, cardamom, black pepper, fruit trees, and timber species all at the same time. Each crop earns at a different time of year, which means your farm generates income across multiple seasons rather than depending on one harvest.
Here is how a typical acre at Nature N Me is structured.
Coffee — The Backbone
Arabica and Robusta coffee are the primary crops across our Coorg and Madikeri estates. Coffee is harvested once a year between November and January. Arabica commands a premium in the market and is well suited to the high altitude and cool temperature of Madikeri. A healthy acre can produce 500 to 800 kg of cherry coffee annually.
Black Pepper — The Climber
Pepper vines are grown alongside shade trees and coffee plants, using the taller trees as support. This costs no extra land at all. Black pepper is one of India’s highest-value spices and is harvested between January and March. A single vine can produce 2 to 4 kg of dried pepper per season once it matures.
Cardamom — The High-Value Addition
Cardamom thrives in the shaded, moist conditions that Coorg’s coffee estates naturally provide. It is one of the most expensive spices by weight in India. Cardamom plants begin yielding from the third year and can produce for over ten years once established.
Fruit Trees — Seasonal Income
Mango, jackfruit, and pineapple are intercropped on our estates. These provide income during summer months when coffee is not being harvested, filling the income gap and also making the farm more self-sufficient.
Timber — The Long Game
Silver oak, teak, and other timber species are planted as shade trees. They serve the coffee plantation while quietly growing into valuable timber assets over ten to fifteen years. These are the trees your children inherit.
What This Means for You as an Investor
Your farm is not a single-crop bet. It is a diversified agricultural portfolio on one piece of land. If coffee prices dip one year, pepper and cardamom still earn. If the monsoon is late, the fruit trees are not affected the same way as the coffee. This natural diversification is one of the strongest reasons managed agroforestry in Coorg outperforms single-crop farming everywhere else.
